Successful Performances: What You Get Back

It’s week 15: We’re almost there — the end of the Spring 2025 Training Term.

Any recital performance –but especially your first one– is a major life goal and significant personal milestone But it’s important to understand that it’s not just about the accomplishment itself – it’s about the emotional and psychological bonuses that come with it.

Let’s unpack that:

OK, maybe you’re just relieved that it’s over. But now that you walked off stage, and processed it a bit, I think you’ll find it’s maybe a deeper experience than you first thought it might be.

When you finally cross that finish line –the recital is done— or graduation (3 of you) or running a marathon (26,000 people this weekend in OKC?!?), scientists tell us our brain releases a flood of feel-good hormones. This not only boosts your mood but also reinforces your motivation to keep achieving future goals in vocal training and performances.

Then, there’s a big boost in self-esteem.

Attaining something significant shows you what you’re capable of, and that can totally change how you see yourself. You start to think, “If I can do this, what else can I achieve?” This newfound confidence can spill over into other areas of your life, making you more willing to take on challenges like harder songs or different styles of singing.

Celebrating these wins is just as important.

When you take the time to acknowledge your achievements, it’s a form of self-care. Whether you throw a party, treat yourself to a nice dinner, or just take a moment to reflect, celebrating helps solidify your accomplishments in your mind. It’s like saying, “Hey, I did this, and it matters!” This not only helps you savor the moment but also creates positive memories tied to your success.

Sharing your achievements with friends and family can strengthen your social connections.

Their support and enthusiasm can enhance your feelings of belonging and happiness. It’s a reminder that you’re not alone on this vocal training journey, and having a solid support system like friends, family and the MaJoVTA can be a game-changer in your performance successes.

Finally, knocking down a big goal isn’t just about the end result; it’s about the ride.

The happiness, boosted self-esteem, and social connections make the whole experience richer.

So, whether you’re walking off stage after singing, crossing that finish line, grabbing that diploma or just heading to Braums, take a moment to soak it all in—you earned it, and you deserve it!
