Now … on to the future!

Here are some additional thoughts on why Mastery Matters, and how it is so very different for everyone:

• Mastery is a process and is accomplished over time.

You’ve heard the old saw “Anything worth doing is worth doing well.” Vocal Training is no exception. And … Mastery is not immediate. It comes through the hard, messy, disciplined work of week-to-week training over a prolonged period of time, often with incremental results (at least at first);

• Mastery: There’s No App For That

Right. It’s two people (you and I) working each week in real time either in person or virtually to accomplish your training goals and make you the best you that you can be. Vocal Training is best understood within the context of patience, perseverance and persistence. These are the traits to be cultivated. Said another way, there’s no such thing as a “quick fix” when it comes to Vocal Training … so keep those expectations real!

• Mastery in Vocal Training occurs on two levels;
  1. The 12 Basic and 4 Advanced vocal exercises and the 11 Essential Elements of Vocal Technique (you do know them…right?)
  2. Repertoire – both your own that you prepare and perform, and those songs that we agree to use for vocal training purposes.
  3. The incorporation of technique into repertoire is an indispensable part of the the training regimen.

I’ll close this blog post with a series of questions for you which we’ll discuss in your upcoming vocal training sessions:

How well have you mastered these exercises and elements?

To what level of work are you willing to commit so that you accomplish Mastery of them?

Do you have what it takes to see it through?
